First offer is in for 2015 QB Ricky Town

It was only a matter of time before sophomore quarterback Ricky Town (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure) earned his first scholarship offer. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound athlete stepped into the starting role and has the Seraphs off to a 6-1 start this year, with plenty of production coming from the quarterback position.

On Sunday, capping a trip to Miami, that first offer was presented by Hurricanes coach Al Golden.

"I think it's an honor that my first offer was from such a great program like Miami," Town said. "That's really cool to think about."

Town's father joined him on the trip, as did 2014 tight end and teammate Bryce Dixon, whose first offer also came from Miami.

Town said he and his father spoke with Golden for a long time before the offer was presented.

"He said I had a full-ride scholarship to Miami and he would love for me to be a Hurricane someday," Town said. "Miami is very high on my list right now. I think they have a great program. Coach Golden is doing great things there and I would love to play for him one day."

Town raved about his experience this weekend. He said he was able to eat with and spend time with the coaches and players and then watch the Hurricanes' home game from the front row before receiving his exclamation point Sunday morning.

"I was pretty excited about it when it happened," Town said of the offer. "When it happened, it was almost like a dream come true. It didn't seem real. I'm really excited, but I have to stay focused and keep producing on the field."

Town said he hasn't thought about the possibility of making an early commitment, but added that he would sit down with his parents and discuss how to handle his recruitment going forward.

"I don't have a number for them or anything, but they are definitely high on my list," he said of the Hurricanes.

Town has also earned interest from programs including Boston College, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and UCLA, among others.
