Georgia LB checks out Arizona State

Linebacker Kenny Orjioke (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter) took an official visit to Arizona State over the weekend and will spend a lot more time on the West Coast before he makes his decision.

Orjioke played for San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) Junipero Serra a year ago but moved with his family to Georgia last July. His junior year was the first time he had played football and he only played in two games before an injury cut his season short.

“I really liked Arizona State a lot, it was a great visit,” Orjioke said. “The cool thing was the coaches didn’t just talk about football with me. In fact, during the visit, I learned more about the academics than anything else. I got a great campus tour and really liked the city of Tempe a lot.

“I have some family in Arizona and have visited the state before but this was my first time seeing Arizona State. The coaches were great with me and I got along really well with the players. Will Sutton was my host but I hung out with a lot of the players and got to know a lot of the other recruits that were visiting as well. I actually saw some guys that I knew from living in Orange County last year and it was cool to see them again as well.”

Orjioke said he gave some thought about committing to the Sun Devils on the visit but wants to check out his options before pulling the trigger.

“I want to see a few more schools to make sure I’m doing the right thing,” Orjioke said. “I’m really good friends with one of my former teammates at JSerra, Jonavaughn Williams, and we’re going to take some visits together and would love to play together in college.

“We’re planning to visit San Diego State and Oregon State and I also want to check out Georgia Tech but that might be an unofficial because I’m pretty close to the school. The San Diego State visit will (Dec. 9) and Oregon State will be (Jan. 13). I’m also looking at North Carolina and Ole Miss and hopefully I’ll be able to make my decision a little but before signing day.”
