California done well at Pleasanton (Calif.) Foothill in the 2013 class, earning a commitment from tight end Raymond Hudson, but the Golden Bears' presence there is helping with a 2014 prospect as well, as cornerback Jamirr Holland has gained plenty of interest in head coach Jeff Tedford's program.
The 5-foot-9, 162-pound Holland hasn't received an offer to this point, but plenty of Pac-12 programs have expressed interest.
"So far Cal has been the frontrunner for getting in touch the most," Holland said. "I've taken two unofficial visits to their home games and coach [Ashley] Ambrose said he likes what he sees and wants to stay in contact with me."
Oregon State and Utah have also been in contact. Holland said the Utes have sent letters frequently and he has been in communication with Beavers head coach Mike Riley. The Beavers are plenty familiar with Foothill as well, it produced quarterback Sean Mannion several years ago.
But another Pac-12 schools stands out early for Holland.
"Originally, my favorite school is Oregon," he said. "I've been a Duck fan for a while now. I like what they're about up there, and I like their facilities."
He said Oregon sent a few pieces of mail last season, but he hasn't heard much from the Ducks in the way of recruiting this year. But Holland has plans to put himself in front of as many coaches as possible next spring and summer. He didn't attend any school camps this past offseason, but that will change next year. Holland said he'd like to attend camps at Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Cal, San Diego State and USC next summer, and possibily make it out to Boise State and Utah as well. There is plenty of drive in Holland to push himself to become a top recruit.
"I want to be a part of those people where they say, 'Oh, he's going somewhere,'" Holland said. "There's motivation to be a part of that and that's something I want to have."
As coaches continue to recruit Holland, the junior is sure they are going to like what they see.
"What I can bring to a team is my versatility," Holland said. "I've always been able to play any position you want me at. I think I'm a good man corner. I play best when I can stay focused on my man."
