Neal sets first official visit

Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral), No. 29 in the ESPNU 150, has been as wide open as any prospect in the region and is still considering double-digit schools. The athlete has locked up his first official visit and will head to the Midwest in December.

Neal is one of the nation’s top two-way players and is currently rated the No. 2 player in the state as well as the No. 4 athlete in the nation. He’s equally talented at both receiver and cornerback and is being recruited on both sides of the ball.

“Davonte will take his first visit to Notre Dame (Dec. 9),” said Luke Neal, Davonte's father. “When we sat down and discussed the schools Davonte will visit, we talked about a lot of things but most importantly was taking care of yourself after football. Academics and specifically, the ability to network and a school with a strong alumni are very high on the list.

“When you consider those things, Notre Dame is tough to beat. They obviously have great tradition on the football field but we like what they offer off the field just as much and Davonte is excited to get out there and check it out. He’ll take all five visits for sure and after each visit, we’ll sit down and discuss the pros and cons. Once he’s done with all of his visits, I think he should have a good idea of where the best fit for him is.”

Neal, who will play in the Under Armour All-America Game on January 5, will not take any official visits during the season and if all goes well, will be playing in the state championship game November 26.

“That’s the plan,” Neal said. “We have a semifinal game this weekend and hopefully we can make it back to the finals. Once our season is over, I’ll focus more on recruiting but right now, I just want to win another state title.”
