Chandler (Ariz.) High School running back Paul Perkins had a fairly quiet junior season and wasn’t on many recruiters' radars heading into his senior year. But the athlete had a breakout year and is now nearing double digit offers.
Perkins finished his senior season with 1,297 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging almost 10 yards a carry. He also plays in the secondary but said all the schools recruiting him, with one exception, are recruiting him as a running back.
“Colorado likes me on defense, everyone is saying running back,” Perkins said. “I also have offers from UCLA, Fresno State, Northwestern, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Air Force.
“I have an official visit set with UCLA for this weekend (Nov. 18) and Fresno State (Dec. 9). Right now, I’m not sure how many visits I want to take or if I’ll take all five. I have these two planned and I would like to visit Northwestern and Montana as well so I’m just going to go through the process and play it by ear.”
Perkins said he’s not favoring any schools right now and is still gathering information about the schools on his list.
“I need to do a lot more research before I can name some favorites,” Perkins said. “Education is big to me and I’m also looking for a school that is balanced in sports and academics and weather is important to. I’m kind of a warm weather guy.
“I’m not hearing at all from any of the in-state schools but that’s all right. I could end up playing against them in the future and that will be some added motivation for me. Right now, I like the options I have and I’m looking forward to these visits and seeing how the process plays out.”
