Wide out Chris Harper (Encino, Calif./Crespi) was hoping to follow the same path as his former teammate and current UCLA freshman Devin Lucien. Unfortunately, despite a strong senior season, his recruitment never blew up the way most anticipated.
Harper had a very good senior season catching 37 balls for 846 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s one of the state’s top route runners and has great hands and body control. He came into the season with just a handful of offers, similar to Lucien last year, and hoped a big senior year would draw the attention of schools nationwide.
“It has been pretty disappointing,” Harper said. “I’m still being patient, just waiting to see if more offers will roll in right now. I think some schools, like Cal, are waiting for their seasons to end but I have a couple of visits set up and I’m looking forward to that.
“I’m going to SMU (Dec. 2) and I think I’m going to be visiting Cal (Dec. 9). I’m also talking a little with UCLA and Nebraska. I was looking to visit Colorado and they offered in the summer but they filled up and aren’t recruiting me any more. Right now, SMU is my top school and I like those coaches a lot. I’m really looking forward to visiting there and I think that’s a very good fit for me.”
