Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou defensive end Luke Kaumatule remains a solid Stanford commit, but will visit two other Pac-12 schools in January.
It was a rough year for Kaumatule as the talented pass rusher tore his ACL in the opening game of the season. He’ll have surgery in a few weeks.
“I have my surgery set for December 13,” Kaumatule said. “I was hoping to take a visit that weekend, the 16th, but with the surgery a few days earlier, I won’t be able to do that. I was going to visit Cal either December 2nd or the 9th, but I’m taking the SAT this weekend and then the ACT next weekend.
“I’m going to visit UCLA (Jan. 13) and I’m still looking forward to that. I know they fired the coach but UCLA is still a great school and I’m excited to see who they bring in. I’m going with a few of my teammates and were all excited to get out there.”
Kaumatule is still working on his Stanford application and is hopeful he can submit it very shortly.
“Coach [Lance] Anderson is coming for a home visit this weekend,” Kaumatule said. “I plan on turning it in this weekend when he comes to visit. I actually feel really good about it and hopefully I’ll get the news that I’ve been accepted in to the school.
“I really like Stanford a lot and after what happened with my knee, it really reinforced how important academics are. You can’t top Stanford but Cal and UCLA are good academic schools too and that’s why these are my top three right now.”
