2015 DE Enesi is on the move

Manu Enesi (Carson, Calif./Carson) already has an impressive line on his resume, as the only sophomore position player named to the first or second All-City Section team following last season. But this spring could add another, as the 6-foot, 235-pound defensive end works extensively at outside linebacker.

"I wanted to play defensive end because that's my dream spot," Enesi said. "But Coach thought that in college I'd move to linebacker, so I'm trying to get it through my head that linebacker is my spot."

This spring is the first time Enesi has worked at linebacker, and there have been ups and downs with the transition. He said he loves the physical nature of the defensive end spot, mixing it up with offensive linemen and constantly chasing down quarterbacks for sacks.

"I'm still trying to get it in my head because I still want to play defensive end. But I have to do it for the team -- anything that's good for the team," Enesi said. "But I've learned a lot. My linebacker coach is my cousin, so he's teaching me a lot at home and going harder on me. I'm used to it, though."

Though Carson runs a 4-3 defensive scheme, the new position could pay dividends when it comes to recruiting.
