Jaydon Mickens (Los Angels, Calif./Dorsey) has had one of the craziest recruitments of the year.
He gave an early commitment to USC but the two sides parted ways a week ago and now things have gotten even more wacky.
Mickens has already officially visited Washington and was also looking at Cal, Arizona State, SMU, Hawaii and Oregon. He was actually supposed to take an official visit to Cal this weekend but that is no longer the case.
“They just never called me back,” Mickens said. “I guess they’re going in a different direction, so I’m going to take an unofficial visit to UCLA on Saturday. Coach [Jim] Mora called me earlier in the week, and he seems like a good guy. He talked to me for a bit and told me how much they like me, so I’m definitely interested in UCLA now and looking forward to meeting him in person.
“It has been kind of a crazy week. The coaches that were recruiting from Washington, Arizona State and SMU are all at UCLA now. I didn’t really expect that so it’s kind of a surprise. Demetrice Martin was my main recruiter at Washington, and I have a good relationship with him. The only reason I was visiting SMU was because of Coach [Adrian] Klemm. So right now, I’m not sure what’s going on with those other schools.”
Mickens has visits set up with Oregon and Hawaii in January and it will be interesting to see if he actually takes those. The Ducks don’t have a lot of spots left and the Warriors don’t really look to be a serious contender.
