Beaver changes weekend visit plans

Defensive back Brandon Beaver (Compton, Calif./Dominguez) was expected to visit Cal this weekend. The Bears are starting to fill up and canceled the visit, so the corner will take a local unofficial visit this weekend instead.

Beaver will be one of a handful of prospects taking a visit to UCLA on Saturday to meet the new Bruins coaching staff. The athlete is already very familiar with new Bruins DB coach Demetrice Martin.

“Coach Martin was a big reason why I liked Washington so much,” Beaver said. “I was basically a lock for Washington just last week but with Coach Martin gone, I don’t know any more. I still like Washington a lot, it wasn’t just Coach Martin, it’s a good school and I like Coach [Steve] Sark[isian] and I had a great visit there. I’m curious who the new DB coach is and they told me soon after the bowl game they’ll have a guy so that’s good.

“To be honest, UCLA was kind of out for me, but I talked to Coach Martin yesterday and he wants me and my pops to meet Coach [Jim] Mora [Jr.] so we’re going down there Saturday. It should be cool and UCLA is definitely back on my list now.”

Beaver also has January visits lined up to Utah and Georgia.

“I’m going to Utah (Jan. 13) and Georgia (Jan. 20),” Beaver said. “I’m not sure I’ll make the Georgia one because I could see myself committing by then. I really like Washington, Utah and Nebraska a lot and now UCLA is right there too, so we’ll see how it goes.”
