Washington State picked up a commitment from one of the elite receives in the West region. Gabriel Marks (Los Angeles, Calif./Venice) was an early SMU commit but switched to the Cougars on his official visit this weekend.
Marks has been one of the state’s top receivers since his sophomore year and is an absolute steal for the Cougars.
“Man I loved it there,” Marks said. “It wasn’t just one thing, it was the total package that Washington State offers. I loved the people, the environment, the city, the atmosphere, the coaches, I mean I loved everything. Pullman is a cool college town and the new coaching staff brings a lot to the table.
Marks said Mike Leach played a big part of his decision.
“I really like Coach Leach a lot and when I told him I was ready to commit, he was pretty excited," Marks said. "If you’re a skill player, especially a receiver, how can you not be excited to play in that offense? I have some big goals and Coach Leach told me he’s expecting me to come in and make an early impact. I want to catch 73 balls next year, that’s my goal and hopefully it happens.”
Marks is also a talented cornerback but was recruited strictly as a receiver. He was also considering Kentucky and Vanderbilt visits but is rock solid with the Cougs and won’t take any other trips.
