Inglewood (Calif.) defensive back Devian Shelton visited Nebraska over the weekend. He was set to visit to Tennessee this coming week, but a scheduling quirk will now have the corner headed to Washington instead.
Shelton committed recently to Oregon State but always planned to take a few official visits. The trip to Nebraska made a very positive impact on him.
“I loved it there; it was a great trip,” Shelton said. "I can’t decide if it was my best trip or not, because I loved Oregon State, but I had a great time. There is so much football tradition at Nebraska, but I learned a lot about the academics as well. They have produced more academic All-Americans than anyone, and I never would have thought that.
“Coach [Bo] Pelini is a great guy, and I really enjoyed getting to know him better. The whole staff was great, but coach Pelini was really cool. He’s intense, and he wants me to come in and be ready to go right away. He said they need corners with my size, and he thinks I can help him, so that’s always good to hear.”
A scheduling snafu for Shelton actually had him with visits scheduled for Washington and Tennessee this weekend.
“Tennessee offered me last week, and I quickly set up a visit with them for this coming weekend,” Shelton said. “I didn’t realize until later that I had already set up a trip with Washington. So I had two schools scheduled for the same weekend. I’m trying to move Tennessee to next weekend, but they said they weren’t sure if they would still have spots left.
“I’m still committed to Oregon State and really have a great vibe there. I talked to Coach [Mike] Riley Monday and he said they’re close to naming a new DB coach, and it’s someone I’ll like a lot. Nebraska came in for a home visit last Monday, and Fresno State and Washington were at my school Tuesday. I’ll probably make my final decision the week after my last visit, so that could be next week or the week after.”
