ATH Mat Boesen all in with Boise State

Mat Boesen (Torrance, Calif./West) and his teammates didn't take the easy way to the CIF championship game on Saturday night. After a 5-0 start, the Warriors dropped their first three conference games, including a 47-14 defeat at the hands of Palos Verdes (Calif.)--the team they'll be matching up against in the finals.

But West has already avenged one loss this season, as they took out Manhattan Beach (Calif.) Mira Costa in the second round of the playoffs, during a 5-game winning streak.

Off the field, things have been fairly calm for Boesen since his verbal commitment to Boise State in late June. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound athlete has been to the Broncos' campus on three different occasions, with two unofficial visits and an official trip last month.

"That definitely locked me in," Boesen said. "I'm pretty much 100 percent. I love it there; I love all the coaches. It feels great."

Boesen said linebackers coach Bob Gregory will make an in-home visit next week, and he is unsure of when head coach Chris Petersen will be in town. But Boesen said other schools have backed off recruiting him since his commitment. He also held an offer from San Diego State.

While he works at tight end and linebacker for the Warriors, Boesen said the Boise State coaches see him as a pure linebacker at the next level.

"I might be playing nickel linebacker for them," he said. "It's a little different, but I like it. It gives me a chance to stand up and get a better view of the play."
