Interest is increasing for junior college receiver Vanzell Richardson (Palm Desert, Calif./College of the Desert), as Utah State became the latest team to extend a scholarship offer, doing so this past Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver adds the offer to previous ones from Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee State and Portland State. He said the Aggies' staff has an immediate need for him.
"They're looking for me to come in and replace the Z receiver, who will be leaving," Richardson said. "They want me to play right now, because I have two to play two."
He will be in touch with the Utah State coaches later this week about setting up an official visit, though he isn't sure when that trip will happen.
Richardson was supposed to be on the road Dec. 7, but an official visit to Florida Atlantic was rescheduled for sometime in January. He said the Florida Atlantic staff wanted him on campus with school fully in session so he could get a better idea of what to expect.
Though he has looking into all of the schools recruiting him, Richardson said none stand out at this point as a leader. With a focus on two aspects, he'll have a few more months to reach a final decision.
"In terms of football, I want to go to a passing offense," he said. "Academically, I want a good criminal justice program. Right after high school, I used to watch a lot of Criminal Minds and CSI. I started liking that and want to get into it."
