Massington talks UCLA, ASU visits

Wednesday evening was a good time for ESPN 300 wide receiver Eldridge Massington (Mesquite, Texas/West Mesquite) to get some much-needed, time-sensitive questions answered.

Massington and his family hosted Arizona State and UCLA during in-home visits. UCLA came first. Massington, who decommitted from USC on Dec. 4, is graduating late this month and looking to enroll in college in January.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound four-star receiver ranked No. 167 in the ESPN 300 said both in-home visits were productive. The face-to-face time with UCLA staff was the second this week, as he made an official visit to the campus Monday.

“UCLA had almost the whole coaching staff there,” Massington said. “It was the whole offensive staff and their DBs coach [Demetrice Martin].

“My mom said she likes them. They’ve got a lot to offer. It’s in L.A., and they’ve got Coach [Jim] Mora. He knows what he’s doing.”

Arizona State met with Massington’s family later that evening. The Sun Devils are intriguing, as Massington could join his West Mesquite teammate, three-star cornerback Will Earley.

“The visit went well. They were talking to my people about a lot of stuff,” Massington said. “They laid out the format where basically, if I came in, I’d have a good chance to start as a freshman. Plus, they have a good program for my major, sports broadcasting.”

Massington, the No. 17 receiver in the country and No. 23 player in Texas among 2013 players, also visited Alabama over the weekend. He will visit Arizona State on Friday.
