DT Tupua is generating momentum

Shalom Tupua (Carson, Calif./Carson) doesn't have a lengthy background in football, but he definitely has a blueprint of how to get where he wants to go. The 6-foot, 279-pound defensive tackle didn't start playing football until high school because of Pop Warner weight restrictions. It's the same path taken by his older brother, Sam Tupua, who went on to Palomar (Calif.) Junior College, the Idaho Vandals and the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League.

Shalom said he tries to model his game after his older brother and is looking to do whatever it takes to get to the next level.

That could have him filling a variety of roles this year, as the standout defensive lineman could play a part on the offensive side of the ball as a big body as well. But Tupua, who transferred from Wilmington (Calif.) Banning after his sophomore season, said he's found a home at defensive tackle.
