Barkley's draft stock

USC quarterback Matt Barkley said Friday on "The Herd" that he will attend the NFL combine but hasn't decided whether he will throw, something he will definitely do during a pro-day session.

"It seems to be the trend not to (throw at the combine), and I don't feel that I have to," Barkley said. "We'll see when that time gets closer. It will be more of a game-day decision as to whether I'm going to. I want to do as much as I can. ... I don't feel I have to necessarily prove anything."

That may be true, so long as he is content with being a second-round pick. ESPN NFL draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. has no quarterbacks listed in the first round of his initial mock draft, though he does still have Barkley as his top QB option available, above West Virginia's Geno Smith and NC State's Mike Glennon:

"Glennon left the Senior Bowl with a lot of questions, so I'm not ready to drop Barkley too far. I think Glennon's stock will rebound in the coming weeks. The body of work really does matter."
