Loss of Skinner (update)

UPDATE: The Carolina Hurricanes could have Jeff Skinner back in the lineup for Thursday's contest with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Atttending morning practice, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer tweeted the following:

"Judging from the lines, Skinner looks good to go ..."

Turns out Jeff Skinner is nursing a concussion after all. The Raleigh News & Observer confirms the young Carolina Hurricanes forward is sidelined indefinitely with the head injury. And the Hurricanes won't have an easy time of replacing the dynamic top-six forward in their everyday lineup.

Chip Alexander suggests Chad LaRose is pegged to fill in for Skinner alongside Jordan Staal and Patrick Dwyer against the Winnipeg Jets Thursday. If they play well together, great; if not, it's back to the drawing board for coach Kirk Muller. Forward Drayson Bowman is also an option. Forward Jussi Jokinen is back to his third-line center role after failing to shine as Skinner's sub against the Montreal Canadiens earlier this week.
