Weight a candidate to coach Rangers?

Former New York Rangers forward and current New York Islanders assistant coach Doug Weight could be a candidate to replace fired Blueshirts bench boss John Tortorella, according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

Brooks points out that Weight has been a positive influence in the development of the Isles' young stars -- Hart Trophy finalist John Tavares among them -- and is "an outstanding power-play mind," which would certainly help a Rangers squad that was worse on the man advantage than at even strength in its five-game, second round playoff loss to the Boston Bruins.

But before the Rangers would be able to talk to Weight, they'd need to get permission from their rivals. Isles GM Garth Snow was noncommittal about the possibility when asked, telling the paper that “hypotheticals are a waste of time."
