UPDATE: David Alter of Sportsnet 590 THE FAN confirms Jake Gardiner will be in the lineup for the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday (versus the Pittsburgh Penguins), while Korbinian Holzer is on his way back to the AHL Marlies.
All signs point to a return by Jake Gardiner (concussion/whiplash) in the very near future.
The Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman insists he's fully fit and able to compete.
"I'm 100 percent," Gardiner said Monday, as reported by the Toronto Sun. "I told (Randy Carlyle and co.) I’m pretty much ready to go, so it's just a coaches' decision ... It’s tough sitting here, but we're being pretty cautious. Hopefully I have a long career ahead so I don't want to risk it too soon. I feel good now."
The Maple Leafs visit the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday.
One of Mark Fraser or Korbinian Holzer should be the odd-man out once Gardiner returns. Or both AHLers, if Cody Franson reclaims a spot to the lineup. In any case, Fraser or Holzer is poised to re-join the Toronto Marlies, as long as the Leafs remain smitten with Mike Kostka.
