Sauer's future with Rangers

This week could go a long way toward determining whether injured defenseman Michael Sauer plays with the New York Rangers again.

According to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, the Blueshirts have flown Sauer, who has sat out since late 2011 with post-concussion syndrome, to Gotham to evaluate his condition.

Leonard reports that Sauer's symptoms are " not believed to have improved significantly" since being hit by Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf two seasons ago. But he also says that if the Rangers determine that Sauer is making progress, the club could could retain the pending restricted free agent's rights for what would be a reasonable price.
