NHL Daily Links - Jan. 14

The Paul Maurice era in Winnipeg began with a flourish, as the Jets upended the Coyotes 5-1. It remains to be seen what kind of alterations take place in the lineup (including possible trades), so stay tuned there.

The other big topic of discussion is the idea of a preliminary trade deadline, as explored by ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun on Tuesday afternoon. Essentially, the Olympic roster freeze means that teams will need to make any moves prior to Feb. 7, or else wait for the scramble between Feb. 24 and March 5. Does that mean we'll see a flurry over the next couple weeks? Wouldn't be a major surprise.
