Source: Bama staffer gave Clinton-Dix loan

Alabama head coach Nick Saban said safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix was suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules on Wednesday, leaving it at that. He didn't provide a reason or a timetable. Today ESPN.com learned that the star defensive back's suspension stemmed from a small loan he received from a UA staff member this summer.

UA assistant strength and conditioning coach Corey Harris has been placed on administrative leave after the school learned he provided impermissible benefits to Clinton-Dix, a source confirmed to ESPN.com Thursday. Clinton-Dix received a loan of less than $500 and repaid it before the start of the season.

The loan constitutes a violation of NCAA Bylaw, which states that "an institutional employee or representative of the institution's athletics interests may not provide a student-athlete with extra benefits or services, including, but not limited to ... a loan of money."

A source told ESPN that Clinton-Dix was the lone player involved.

Another source said to expect Clinton-Dix to miss this weekend's game against Georgia State but that he should be reinstated within the month.
