With Alabama's loss to Texas A&M, Kansas State and Oregon have the inside track to
the BCS championship game. With Alabama’s loss shaking up the BCS rankings, let’s take a look at five statistical nuggets from the latest standings:
1-- Kansas State ascends to the top spot in the BCS standings for the first time in school history.
The Wildcats are the fifth team from the Big 12 to reach No. 1 in the BCS. That ties the SEC for the most schools from a single conference to sit atop the BCS. That means that 10 of the 16 schools that have reached No. 1 have played in one of two conferences.
Kansas State’s ascension to the top of the BCS standings snaps a streak of 14 straight releases with an SEC at No. 1, the longest such run in BCS history.
2-- Alabama had been No. 1 in the BCS standings for four straight weeks. The Crimson Tide are the fifth team to fall out of the BCS Top-2 after spending at least four straight weeks atop the standings.

After 4+ Weeks at No. 1
Could there be a silver lining for Alabama? The two teams that previously fell from a Top-2 spot before the final BCS release bounced back to play in the championship game.
With the Crimson Tide the top-ranked SEC team at No. 4, this is the first time since the first BCS release of the 2010 season that no SEC team was ranked in the Top-3.
3-- The biggest jump this week was by Texas A&M, which improved from No. 15 to No. 8 after its win in Tuscaloosa. The Aggies are the 11th different SEC school to reach the BCS Top 10. Ole Miss and Vanderbilt have never reached the Top 10, while Missouri did so while it was still in the Big 12.
This is the first time that the Aggies have been in the BCS Top-10 since 1998, when the finished the season at No. 6 after appearing in the Top-10 in all seven BCS releases.
With Texas A&M vaulting in the rankings, six of the top nine teams in the BCS standings are from the SEC. It is the first time in BCS history that six of the Top-10 teams have come from the same conference.
4-- This is the third season that Oregon has ascended to the Top-2 in the BCS, but will the Ducks head south? In 2010, they spent the entire year as one of the two top teams, but after reaching No. 2 in 2007 they lost their next three games to drop completely out of the rankings.
5-- Florida State has been in the Top-10 for three straight weeks.

That is its longest such stretch since the Seminoles were this high in five straight releases from 2003 to 2004.
Florida State is No. 6 in both of the human polls, but has suffered in the computers.
The Seminoles are the only member of the Top-10 with fewer than three games on its schedule against teams current appearing in the BCS standings.
