Unheralded DeSoto players to watch

September, 27, 2011
Days after nationally-ranked DeSoto (Texas) routed homeschool power NOAH (Tulsa, Okla.), 61-13, some people are still trying to find positives in scheduling the game. One positive for DeSoto (No. 28 in the Fab 50) is that Claude Mathis and the rest of his coaching staff had the chance to analyze some of their future stars against decent athletes.

Sitting on the sidelines after the first quarter were DeSoto's BCS-bound studs, such as defensive end Michael Richardson (Texas A&M), offensive tackle Curtis Riser (Texas), running back Devin Rushing (Air Force) and cornerbacks Bryson Echols (Texas) and Jalen Mills (LSU). Mathis watched several uncommitted seniors and rising juniors and sophomores shoulder the scoring load on offense, as well as make game-changing plays on defense.

Here are 10 players from DeSoto to keep an eye on Oct. 7, the next time the Eagles take the field. The team is idle this week. All names are in alphabetical order.
