BYU tight end Moroni Laulu-Pututau has announced that he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Cougars' loss at Washington on Saturday. In a tweet posted Sunday night, Laulu-Pututau confirmed what many suspected after he left the game during the first series of BYU's 35-7 loss. “I have torn my ACL and will be needing surgery,” he wrote. “It hurts so much more emotionally and mentally than it does physically but I won't be returning [until] the 2019 season." The 6-foot-5, 245-pound junior ranks second on the team in receptions (14) and receiving yards (120). This is Laulu-Pututau's second season-ending injury in as many years: a preseason Lisfranc foot injury kept him out for all of the 2017 season.

A brief snapshot of Washington's complete and total dominance of the nation's 20th-ranked team tonight: Yards: 409-148; First downs: 22-5; Average yards per play: 8.3-4.5; Score: 35-0. And we've still got a whole other quarter to go here in Seattle.

What a disastrous close to the first half for BYU: The Cougars lost a fumble on a 3rd-and-15 run deep in their own territory clearly meant to set up a punt, and Washington needed only three plays to score a touchdown that ran its lead up to 21-0. The Huskies have, indeed, controlled this game from the start but BYU has certainly helped them along the way.

Jake Browning is now the all-time leading passer in Washington history, breaking Cody Pickett's school record of 10,200 yards. Presumably he'll be putting this mark way out ahead of anyone else for awhile.

Another BYU penalty — this time a false start on 3rd and 15 — might've been *just* enough to push the Cougars out of scoring range. Thus, a 12-play, 56-yard drive ends with a missed 45-yard field goal and BYU remains scoreless.

BYU was on the wrong end of some yellow flags in the first quarter, racking up five penalties for 35 yards. The Cougars' third holding penalty of the night just moved them out of the red zone in a drive that seemed as if it would surely end in points.

BYU tight end Moroni Laulu-Pututau, a junior who is the Cougars' leading receiver, will not return to the game tonight, according to the team. It wasn't immediately clear why he left the game.

Jake Browning has plenty of time to scan the field and Myles Gaskin has lots of room to run, as No. 11 Washington is clearly dominating up front halfway through the first quarter against BYU. The Huskies are averaging 7 yards per play so far.

Washington wins the first big scrum along the line of scrimmage, stoning BYU's Squally Canada for no gain on 3rd and 1. The Huskies' best hope for avoiding an upset tonight is to continue winning those kinds of short-yardage showdowns.
