The basketball early signing period runs Nov. 14-21, which means recruits can officially put pen to paper starting Wednesday. But with only 16 ESPN 100 prospects still undecided, don't hold out for a wave of commitments.
Sure, we're expecting at least a few decisions from top-50 recruits. Joel Embiid (not currently in the ESPN 100, but soon to be in the next rankings update) got things rolling on Tuesday with a commitment to Kansas. And center BeeJay Anya recently narrowed his list to NC State and, well, NC State. He'll declare his intentions (presumably for NC State) on Friday. Aside from Anya, there's reason to believe we might get news on Kennedy Meeks and Tyler Roberson. What we don't expect to hear is a top-10 player announcing in the next few days.
So here we are on the eve of the early signing period. Just in case you haven't been paying close attention to 2013 recruiting so far, here are 10 storylines to get you caught up for the signing period and five bold predictions for the next week and beyond.
It's not just Kentucky; it's the SEC
At times in the past decade, basketball recruiting was not kind to the SEC. Despite the championships by Florida and presence of Kentucky, all was not well. Things changed in 2009 when John Calipari took residence in Lexington and went on an unprecedented recruiting run.
While Calipari's league rivals won't say it, UK's success has been a boon for the conference. The league is in the spotlight again and has begun capitalizing on the recruiting trail. This year, the SEC isn't only king in football recruiting.
