Starting 5: Embiid's rise continues

Editor's note: Every Monday in "Starting 5," we'll roll out five stories, themes and nuggets from the basketball recruiting world to tip off your week in proper form. We'll set the table with the stories that need to be told and give you a leg up on the watercooler conversations around the office.

This week's edition of Starting 5 includes Kansas-bound Joel Embiid continuing to raise his stock, the impact of the college coaching carousel on recruiting as the spring signing period approaches, and introductions to one of the nation's best rebounders and one of the nation's best freshmen.

1. Embiid carves out his national niche

In the scouting business, the truth is that you're known more for your misses than your hits. That's just how it is, and it comes with the turf. However, that doesn't mean the hits don't feel good.

With that in mind, moving center Joel Embiid (Gainesville, Fla./The Rock School) to the No. 2 center in the senior class when we updated our recruit rankings this winter turned out to be an excellent call by the ESPN staff.
