With the new ESPN 100 player rankings out and as the 2014 basketball recruiting cycle picks up heading into the July evaluation periods, here's a look at how each team in the SEC is shaping up in the 2014 recruiting class. Team-by-team recruiting capsules for the Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and ACC are already out, and the AAC (Monday), Big East (Tuesday) and best of the rest (Wednesday) will be coming in subsequent days.
Note: Teams are as of conference alignment for the 2013-14 season.
Who they have: No 2014 recruits so far.
Who they want: The Crimson Tide are in need of scoring punch. Most importantly, however, they need guys who value defensive effort and intensity. The hit list includes a smattering of players from their region. Coach Anthony Grant is after ESPN 100 prospects such as shooting guard Devin Booker, shooting guard Ahmed Hill, forward JaKeenan Gant, shooter Riley Norris and point guard Lance Tejada. You'll also hear guards Tadric Jackson, Robert Johnson and Devin Mitchell mentioned.
Storyline to watch: The offseason transfer of Trevor Lacey and possible loss of Devonta Pollard could leave the Tide without star power, so it would be nice to land one of the higher-profile guys from their wish list. The measure of Alabama's 2014 class could come down to how much scoring power gets signed.
Bold prediction: The strong presence of Grant appeals to one of their primary wing targets and the Tide land a top-50 perimeter player. They have first crack at Gant.
Overall recruiting trend: Even, largely thanks to last year's frontcourt group having some long-term potential. As for many of the teams in this league, it's a big year on the recruiting trail.
