TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- To say Alabama came from nowhere to win the BCS National Championship would be untrue. You don't win two titles in three seasons without earning a reputation.

Still, after losing a Heisman Trophy finalist at tailback, the top four pass-catchers on offense and two-thirds of the starters on the defensive side of the football, it seemed unlikely the Crimson Tide would make history and maintain the title of college football's best.
