GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Now that spring practice has concluded, GatorNation takes a look at the projected defensive depth chart for the 2012 Florida Gators heading into the season. The offensive depth chart was examined on Wednesday.
Lerentee McCray (RSr.) -- Gideon Ajagbe (RSo.), Dante Fowler Jr. (Fr.), Kedric Johnson (RJr.), Alex McCalister (Fr.), Bryan Cox Jr. (Fr.)
Losing Ronald Powell, who led UF with six sacks last season, to a torn ACL really hurts, because he was having a tremendous offseason and was a dominant player in the spring. He's out for 4-6 months -- which seems a bit optimistic -- but McCray will give the Gators a solid player there. He was having a good season in 2011 until a shoulder injury caused him to miss four of the final five games of the season. Fowler, McCalister and Cox will benefit from Powell's injury because they'll be given plenty of chances to earn playing time. Fowler and Cox have the best chance, because McCalister needs to bulk up (he's 6-foot-6, 220 pounds) in order to hold up against SEC offensive tackles.
