Small-town duo have big-time talent

MILLEN, Ga. -- Defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor and defensive end James Deloach, standouts for Jenkins County High, have captured the hearts and hopes of their community.

Millen, a town of about 3,400 in eastern Georgia, is not known for being a hotbed of gridiron talent. While most of the rest of the Peach State is booming, Millen has seen its population decrease by about 11 percent in the last 20 years. More than a third of Millen residents live below the poverty level.

With an unemployment rate of more than 18 percent, the town's future is murky. What is clear is that Taylor and Deloach have bright futures.

Two years ago, the rising sophomores got rare invites to compete at the Mark Richt Camp, and not only did the young teammates hold their own against top prospects often two years older, both impressed the Bulldogs coaching staff as well. Their performances put them on the recruiting map and directly into the crosshairs of a neighboring rival.
