Early enrollment trends up

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The recruiting process has become hyper-accelerated. Coaches are evaluating younger and younger prospects, sometimes extending eyebrow-raising offers.

Last week, a 14-year-old quarterback committed to Washington. Another 14-year-old, a linebacker, was offered by LSU.

The jumpstart mentality is filtering down to the prospects. Many of them now are trying to graduate high school early so that they might enroll at their college of choice for the spring semester, get a few classes under their belts and participate fully in spring practice.
