Cass Tech coach runs tight ship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- When coaching a team of players who've already won state championships, committed to BCS schools and/or are big names nationwide, there's one mantra that Detroit Cass Tech coach Thomas Wilcher leans on: The bench is always there and can always teach a lesson.

And he uses it liberally. Whether it's the best linebacker in the country or the third-string running back, if the player isn't performing, Wilcher will find them a spot on the bench.

"He doesn't care who it is, he'll sit you," 2014 defensive back target Damon Webb said. "But it pushes me harder in practice, because at Cass Tech we're all about competition. We know there's always a player who's ready to step up when you mess up."
