Swenson makes waves

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. -- During the summer of 2009, Downers Grove South coach John Belskis ran his varsity team through a series of drills and conditioning exercises one evening. After the players left the field, the coaching staff stayed to discuss plans for the upcoming season as well as which players already stood out to them.

That was the first time Erik Swenson's name had come up with the South coaches, though three years later his name now has popped up in some college coaches' war rooms, including Michigan's and Northwestern's.

But his name wasn't brought up because he was one of the players who had stood out on the varsity team. It was because Swenson, who had taken the field with his father, was now running through a similar set of drills.
