Defensive backs solid

WolverineNation continues breaking down the good, the bad and what needs the most improvement with Michigan, position-by-position. Today, we look at the secondary.

It didn't look good when sophomore cornerback Blake Countess went down with an ACL injury, ending his season just a few plays into it. How would Michigan fare? Could the Wolverines' secondary be serviceable without a player who had been a big part of the Michigan defense's foundation?

But four games in, the Wolverines look solid and have dug into their depth to find players who work for their team. Led by fifth-year senior Jordan Kovacs, the Michigan secondary has managed to be a reliable part of the team. And with a struggling Big Ten conference, and the Wolverines not facing a proven and potent air attack early in the conference schedule, the secondary being just reliable, not flashy could be enough for a title-winning season.
