NORMAN, Okla. -- For the last couple of months it has appeared that wide receiver Derrick Woods (Inglewood, Calif./Inglewood) was trying to give Oklahoma every opportunity to make his verbal commitment happen.
Woods mentioned he wanted to leave the state of California and said OU was one of his favorites. He was set to make an official visit Nov. 4 to watch the Sooners game against Texas A&, but was forced to reschedule that visit three days before the trip because he had to take the SAT on Saturday morning.
Initially, Woods was talking to receivers coach Jay Norvell. However, that started to change as defensive backs coach Willie Martinez became his main source of contact. It became a battle of wills, as OU was trying to convince Woods, ranked the No. 17 wide receiver in the nation, that safety was his true calling.
