Depth charges: Running back

Carlos Hyde rushed for 5.6 yards per carry and six touchdowns in a backup role as a sophomore in 2011, and he will likely be the starter in the first game of the 2012 season. Eric Francis/Getty Images

In the second part of a series breaking down the Ohio State roster as it works through offseason conditioning and prepares for its first fall camp under coach Urban Meyer, BuckeyeNation takes a peek into the offensive backfield.

Post-spring depth chart: Jordan Hall starting over Carlos Hyde.

Summer shakeup: Hall's foot tendon, which got cut on a piece of glass June 27, required surgery, and Ohio State projects that will keep him on the shelf for 10 weeks. That would knock him out of the lineup for at least two games, which would bump Hyde into the starting role ahead of either Rod Smith or Bri'onte Dunn.
