Brown will get on the field

Wide receiver is a crowded position for Texas, but Kendall Sanders is the kind of playmaker who will force his way onto the field. John Albright/Icon SMI

Texas played 18 true freshmen in 2011 with players making big contributions at key positions. The Longhorns might not play that many this season, but these five newcomers have a chance to make an impact in 2012.

You would think that a position as stacked as the defensive tackle spot at Texas would be a real test to see if a true freshman could have an impact. That would be true for most freshmen around the country not named Malcom Brown. He is big, strong, athletic and plays with the motor and passion of a veteran. Even with the likes of Brandon Moore, Desmond Jackson, Ashton Dorsey and Chris Whaley in the defensive tackle rotation, Brown will make that rotation five players deep. Expect to see him in the first game against Wyoming, and do not be shocked if he makes plays early and often.
