Mickens adjusting to new role

LOS ANGELES -- Jaydon Mickens established himself as a highly recruited football player by catching an abundance of passes as a sophomore and junior. But he might cement his legacy at Los Angeles Dorsey High School by throwing a few as a senior.

With regular starter Reggie Bell unable to suit up due to a knee injury, Mickens made the switch to quarterback one day before a 14-12 loss to Redlands (Calif.) East Valley. Mickens said he played most of that game with his head swirling, doing his best to adjust to the new position.

But after a full week to prepare for Friday's game at Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany -- a team coming off an impressive win over West Hills Chaminade the previous week -- Mickens left it all on the field and led his team to a 13-12 win.
