Bulking up the trenches

LOS ANGELES -- The early departure of junior All-American offensive tackle Matt Kalil to the NFL has quickly renewed focus on the returning members of the Trojans' offensive line and the state of that position's recruiting.

Before the Kalil announcement, Lane Kiffin's staff had been answering the local recruiting call by getting verbal commitments from such celebrated schoolboy offensive linemen as Santa Margarita superstar Max Tuerk, Encino Crespi man-child Jordan Simmons, and Santa Monica hidden nugget Chad Wheeler.

The Trojans are still locked in a heated recruiting tug-of-war with the Stanford Cardinal for San Clemente's Kyle Murphy, a near certain consensus prep All-American.
