The recruiting Christmas list

LOS ANGELES -- The recruiting dead period began Monday, but with fewer than two months until signing day and the holidays fast approaching, there is certain to be a recruiting wish list floating around Heritage Hall as the USC coaches continue to build their 2012 recruiting class. WeAreSC takes a look at what could be on coach Lane Kiffin's list this year, as he fills his third recruiting class as head coach of the Trojans.

Early good news
Kiffin could be less than 24 hours away from his next commitment, as junior college standout safety Gerald Bowman (Woodland Hills, Calif./Pierce College) will announce his decision Wednesday. Bowman is down to USC, Oklahoma and Miami (Fla.), and he will have a significant impact on the Trojans 2012 class. With Scott Starr, Chad Wheeler and DeVante Wilson set to enroll this January, there is one available scholarship in the class of 2011, which Bowman would grab as an early enrollee. The coaches are almost certain to use the scholarship, so adding one of the top junior college players -- at a position that could need an immediate starter next season -- would be a big benefit.

Expanded door frames around campus
USC has seen its share of quality big men throughout the years, but Kiffin and staff undoubtedly would like to make the campus even more accommodating for what they hope will be a banner year for big men in this class. They are off to a good start with Max Tuerk (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita) and Jordan Simmons (Encino, Calif./Crespi). But they would certainly be happy to order a few more extra-large shoulder pads for defensive tackles Ellis McCarthy (Monrovia, Calif./Monrovia) and Aziz Shittu (Atwater, Calif./Buhach Colony), and offensive tackles Zach Banner (Lakewood, Wash./Lakes), Andrus Peat (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) and Kyle Murphy (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente).
