CONCORD, Calif. -- Michael Hutchings remembers last year's state championship win more for what happened after the final seconds ticked off the clock than for what happened during play. Etched in his mind is a glorious scene in which teammates, specifically senior teammates, displayed raw emotion.
De La Salle walked off the field at the Home Depot Center as winners of three consecutive state bowl games following a 35-0 drubbing of Southern California representative Westlake, and a sense of accomplishment sank in.
"It was amazing just to see the seniors' faces," Hutchings said. "They were finally done with the journey. It takes a while to get to there, to the state bowl, but it felt great to see everything come together. It all paid off in one night."
