Bye weeks bring conflicting emotions

LOS ANGELES -- Bye weeks are common at all levels of football. In fact, seasons without byes are becoming more and more rare, even at the high school level.

A week off from playing a real game can be a momentum killer for some teams, while for others it is a welcome development. How a team enters and leaves a bye week will have a direct effect on the next couple of games, which can make or break a season.

The Trojans are amid their bye week after a win over Arizona and a 4-1 overall record. During the past five games the Trojans have answered some questions they had at the start of the season, but new ones have emerged.
