Eddie Jones caps senior season with district MVP honors

December, 15, 2005
Spoke with Kilgore head coach Mike Vallery about his four senior star players. The first player we spoke about was ESPN's No. 1 rated defensive end and Texas commit Eddie Jones.

Coach Vallery was at league meetings yesterday morning and said that Eddie was named MVP of district 17-4A. When you look at his stats, it is no wonder why. Jones finished his senior season with 95 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks for a total of minus 91 yards, 4 pass break ups, 1 blocked punt, 4 forced fumbles and 6 fumble recoveries, 2 of which he returned for touchdowns.

While Jones was the dominant figure most expected him to be, he was not the only one causing problems for opposing offenses. Fellow defensive end Wayne Daniels was named defensive player of the year in the district, finishing with 65 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks, 1 interception, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. Daniels, who has committed to Kansas State, is still solid on his verbal despite the coaching change according to coach Vallery.
