Notes from around the NFL

January, 24, 2007
Saints phenom Reggie Bush apologized for his actions but there almost certainly will be a consequence for his taunting of Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher at the end of his 88-yard touchdown catch in the NFC Championship Game. The play is under review by the league and Bush can expect a fine.

• Even though the Falcons have no intentions of trading backup quarterback Matt Schaub, his status as a restricted free agent could make for some frayed nerves. If a team wants to surrender first- and third-round draft picks by signing Schaub to a prohibitive offer sheet, it will be tough for Atlanta to match.

• Jets coach Eric Mangini got an excused absence from attending the Senior Bowl. "He needed to get away," said Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum. "He burned it pretty hard going back to the day he was hired."
