Truth or fiction

I've spoken to J.P. Ricciardi a few times over the years, and I've heard him speak to a group once or twice. He's funny and he's charismatic, and if I owned a car dealership I'd want him to be my No. 1 salesman. Charisma can take you only so far, though, and I'm not sure if Ricciardi's charm will get him out of this mess: This spring, he flat-out lied about B.J. Ryan's injury:

First of all, it wasn't B.J. Ryan's back that was bothering him. It was his elbow that was bothering him. We said it was his back so he could have a little bit more time.

There are a lot of things we do not tell the media, because the media does not need to know it and the fans do not need to know it. There are a lot of things that happen that if you let it play out, it ends up solving itself. If you bring attention to it, then a lot is made out of things that don't end up being a big deal.
