Miami making waves in home state

June, 7, 2007
Randy Shannon's blue-collar recruiting efforts in the state of Florida continue to make an impact on the 2008 class. Yesterday, the first-year head coach received verbal commitments from two highly-touted Sunshine State gridiron stars. Two ESPN 150 Watch List players, WR Thearon Collier (Miami, Fla./Booker T. Washington) and outside linebacker Jordan Futch (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade-Madonna College Prep), both decided to keep their talents in-state and help resurrect the Miami program.

Futch is 20 pounds away from being one of the top outside linebacker prospects in this year's class. Besides his lack of ideal bulk, it is very difficult to find many physical flaws in his overall game. The athletic Futch blends great fluidity and change-of-direction quickness in space. He can close quickly and mirror elite skill players on his front-side perimeter, or he shows why he is the definition of a sideline-to-sideline tackler chasing from the backside.
