Harris now key for Bears
June, 25, 2007
The Bears could no longer tolerate Tank Johnson's off-field behavior and decided to release him on Monday. What does this mean to their exceptional defense and team as a whole? Johnson is a pure "three technique" type of defensive tackle, a position that is imperative to get production from in the Tampa 2 defense. Johnson is an explosive penetrating upfield player who brings a disruptive nature to the middle of the defense and an invaluable interior pass rush presence. Players with this skill set are very difficult to come by and generally go very high on draft day. The only thing that kept Johnson out of the first round was the off-field baggage he carried entering the league. On the field, Johnson is a fine football player who has a lot of upside. Another team will surely take a chance on him.
