Trying times for Marbury

December, 3, 2007
A few weeks ago, I sat at Madison Square Garden and watched the fans serenade Patrick Ewing with praise. Ewing, back in town as an assistant coach with Orlando, clearly enjoyed the adulation, waving to the crowd while smiling from ear to ear.

As the cheers rained down, I found myself and the reporter sitting next to me chuckling at the irony. After all, those same fans often treated Ewing like garbage during his 15 years with the Knicks that saw him put together arguably the best career in franchise history.

If they could do it all over again, Knicks fans would probably give Ewing a standing ovation every time he touched the ball. Of course, turning back the clock like that is impossible.
